Disordered Eating
Are you tired of battling unwanted thoughts to eat or to not eat? Are you tired of obsessing over how your body looks? These are all concerns of one struggling with disordered eating or body image. Disordered eating and body image issues evolve and develop slowly over time. Until one day you wake up and wonders, how did I get here??? Disordered eating involves a number of different eating behaviors that may or may not be diagnosed as an eating disorder. Disordered eating is often accompanied by problematic (and often distressing) thoughts and beliefs about eating, shape, and weight, such as, eating will make me feel better, eating a donut will make me fat, If I don’t carefully control my diet my weight will spiral out of control, I should only eat when I am truly hungry.

Our thoughts fuel disordered eating. We process thousands of thoughts per day, and many of them are automatic and under our awareness. We typically do not stop to examine our thoughts to determine if they are facts or useful. Dysfunctional thoughts and distortions are thoughts that are inaccurate and destructive. These distortions can contribute to problematic eating behaviors such as restriction, bingeing, purging, and excessive exercise.

If you are ready to start feeling better and gain control over yourself, your body, and your diet email me today. Maybe, its time to explore other options for body and image and disordered eating?
Lets begin to get curious. Do you have eating behaviors that cause you distress? Do you have parts that feel conflicted about your food choices? Do you have an inner food police that monitors how much you eat, exercise or weigh?
Disordered eating parts can take on these various roles of restricting food, soothing with food, binging, purging and parts that obsess about diets and healthy eating. These eating patterns all produce dopamine, which soothes the pain of exiles (burdened parts of shame, terror, loneliness and powerlessness from the past) and can make firefighters (part that relieves pain) go into extreme roles.
